Recently, CMA official website announced that starting from September 5th, it will levy peak season surcharge (PSS) on goods from Asia to South Africa and overweight surcharge (OWS) on dry containers from Asia to West Africa.


CMA levies surcharge PSS from Asia to South Africa during peak season


In order to continuously strive to provide reliable and efficient services to customers, CMA announced the following peak season surcharges, which will be valid from September 5, 2023 (ship loading date) until further notice. Specific notice and charging standard:

Port of origin: Asian countries/regions: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, China, Macau, China and Taiwan Province, China.


Port of destination: Cape Town, South Africa


Box type: dry goods, refrigerated containers, OOG and bulk goods.


Charging standard: 150 USD /TEU


CMA levies an overweight surcharge OWS from Asia to West Africa


CMA CGM official website informs its customers to levy the following Overweight Surcharge (OWS), which will be valid from September 5, 2023 (the ship loading date) until further notice.


Port of origin: Chinese mainland, Hongkong, China, Macau, China and Taiwan Province, China.


Port of destination: Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola and Gabon.


Box type: the total weight of dry boxes exceeds 18 tons.


Charging standard: 150 USD /TEU


It is worth noting that CMA will impose a new port congestion surcharge (PCS) at Iskenderun Port in Turkey. CMA said it would impose a surcharge of $200 per container on all types of containers shipped from Iskenderun to West Africa. The surcharge will take effect on August 25th.

In addition, CMA will also impose a congestion surcharge of 100 euros (US$ 108) /TEU at Turkish ports on all goods travelling to and from Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Poland and the Baltic Sea. The surcharge will take effect on August 29th, and it is applicable to dry containers, dangerous goods and refrigerated containers.

CMA also announced that it would impose a congestion surcharge of 100 euros /TEU on all INTRAMED goods from the Mediterranean (including Portugal), North Africa (including Morocco) and the Black Sea to Iskenderun. The surcharge will also take effect on August 29th, and it is applicable to dry containers, dangerous goods and refrigerated containers.
